[Review] Rise of The Planet of The Apes (2011)

Guevara-esque, isn't it?

"Vini, Vidi, Vici" Once a Roman said and this one isn't just a Roman. its The Roman. The Roman general who lead Roman empire for years after years of glory and his name even still familiar these days. Julius Caesar. His "saw, came and conquer" motto is a clear prove of his ambition to rule Rome with ruthless iron fist and no one (at that time) could stand up against him. But no, he's not the Caesar that I want to talk about. This Caesar is sit on perch of my toplist badass figure and he's not even a man!

Making himself comfortable up there while eating banana instead of popcorn and put his sunglasses on to watch his movie premiere. Caesar (Andy Serkis) is really the center-of-attention in "Rise of The Planet of The Apes". In this movie, James Franco play as Will Rodman a doctor who work on GenSys (Pharmaeutical Corp.) to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. As a labrat (or you could say labapes in this case) Caesar's mother got injected by serum named ALZ 112. This serum turn out not just being a cure for Alzheimer but also increasing the intelligence of its user. Caesar, who born with this super intelligent gene is making him way too smart to other apes. Even if compared to human. Unfortunately some things arent meant to be change. Caesar's incredibly super intelligence makes him got no place within the society, human are just not ready for this stuff and this is when the movie really kick in. Held within primate shelter he learn to live with another apes. He learn that he (like the other great Caesar did) could lead an army that no human have ever face. He take the role of a general to start a revolution against human. A revolution which rising an era of the planet of the apes.

In this movie you'll feel affection and anger at same time. Your emotions really mixed up (in a good way). On one side you have Rodman who showed really attached and having deep connection with Caesar and on the other side there's other people who doesn't really get Caesar's feeling and obviously treat him as a threat. This mixed of emotion really played well at the hands of Rupert Wyatt. Also support by the CGI team of Avatar and Lord of The Rings which make this movie really eyes-pleasing from visual effect point of view. For me Caesar's emotional conflict at some point felt like Bicentennial Man's whom both questioning themselves to their master, who they really are. This movie also taught the leadership that's shown by Caesar. You can learn a lot by observe how he act whether to his enemies or allies. Andy Serkis (also played Gollum) got to win something with this kind of performance in this film. Definitely a movie you have to watch!
